BacklotHub vs StaffMeUp
Short answer: StaffMeUp is a live job board for TV, film and digital production, with a Basic membership and a paid Premium one for crew. BacklotHub Jobs is not live yet. What BacklotHub has today is each studio’s own crew sign-up page and roster, free for crew. If you need to post a job to a large open network this week, use StaffMeUp.
What is StaffMeUp?
StaffMeUp says it has been where people in media production go to hire and get hired since 2003, calling itself a network for production jobs in TV, film and digital. Crew keep a profile with their credits and get work alerts. The Basic membership lists 5 job applications, with no price shown; Premium adds promoted applications, job analytics, a featured résumé and search of all freelancers. Employers get a free job-poster plan, and Enterprise plans add people search, messaging and shared applicant review.[1][2][3][4][5]

- Is BacklotHub Jobs live?
- No. BacklotHub Jobs is being built and has no launch date yet. Crew can join the early-access list on the For crew page. Studios on BacklotHub already have their own crew sign-up page.
- Does StaffMeUp allow unpaid jobs?
- StaffMeUp’s terms say the rate on each job posting must be at or above minimum wage where the job is. BacklotHub Jobs will go further on disclosure: every posting must show a real day or weekly rate, and unpaid, deferred and “credit/copy/meals” postings won’t be accepted.
- What’s the difference between a studio crew page and a job board?
- A job board is one open marketplace where many employers post. A BacklotHub crew page belongs to your studio: crew sign up to work with you, you approve them onto your roster, and they keep their own contact details current.
- Is BacklotHub free for crew?
- Yes. Crew never pay BacklotHub: not to sign up on a studio’s crew page, not to keep a profile, and not to apply when BacklotHub Jobs opens.
